NEW ZEALAND BUTTER IN CANADA
HOSTILE CRITICISM. United Press Association —By Electrie Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, Jan. 15. A message from Charlottetown Prince Edward Island, states ihat tho Guardian newspaper has published an articlo attacking the trade treaty. The article states that two shipments of New Zealand butter, totalling five and a-lialf million pounds, which were recently landed at Halifax, means that a quantity of Canadian butter must look elsewhere for a market. “This is what farmers, dairymen and the country are up against,” the Guardian states. “Our competitors enjoy summer weather and excellent pasturage, while our own cattle must be kept in stalls ‘eating their heads off.’ “How long does Ottawa propose to remain blind to the interests of a great Canadian industry. Thanks to the quality of the product, the island dairymen have had a good year; undoubtedly, they would have done better if they had been spared this unwelcome invasion.”
