While a little early in tho year for Southdowns the best quality rams from the better known breeders sold at particularly good figures for the class. Top price at the sale was lOOgns which was paid in two instances, Mr. W. J. Gimblett of Hastings and Messrs Ellis Bros of Bulls being the vendors. Messrs Burrell and Son, of Feilding, were perhaps a little unlucky that there ram which realised 94gus., was tho iirst lot submitted to the buyers. All three sheep were characteristic high-class animals. Southdown ewes did not find a ready sale though vendors quitted some lots. Buyers betrayed no interest in the Eyelands catalogued.

Dalgety & Co.’s Report.

The first day of this initial lair was held at Feilding on Wednesday, the 15th inst., and Dalgety & Co., Ltd. report a substantial entry of local breeders' rams with a few small pens of ewes. There w-as naturally a great deal of conjecture as to the fate of the sale, but immediately the first good sheep entered the ring all doubt was dispelled and the fixture must rank amongst the most successful of its kind.

Striking sheep from leading breeders evoked the keenest of bidding, guineas were shot freely through the air, and applause greeted both buyer and seller of the high figured rams. Buyers were present from overseas and all parts of the Dominion, but the majority of the outstanding sheep will find their new homes within easy distance of the ring' in which they, changed hands. Cover ing the sale generally, many object lessons were taught, and it was noticeable that sheep below a certain high standard failed to interest any section of the very large attendance.
