From Our Own, Correspondent.BOROUGH COUNCIL. .In addition to the Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) the following were present at the meeting of the Foxton Borsugh Council on Monday night, Cts. S. E. Cowley, E. Parkin, C. C. Rand, R. Rangiheuea, John Ross, C. Spring, R. J. Thompson and M. H. Walker.. An apology was received from Cr. F. Lucinsky. The question of permitting motor ears to be parked in the vicinity of the racecourse on Taee days and other occasions when the racecourse is in use was disussed, and on 4ho motion of. Cr. Rangiheuea seconded by Cr. Parian it was decided that the traffic inspector be instructed not to permit ears to be parked on the 16th, 17th and 22nd January on any of the following streets, Park street, Victoria street and Russell street., north of the saleyards up to the northern boundary of the racecourse. Attention was also called to the fact that traffic rules were frequently ignored in tkc Main street and the traffic inspector ft to give this matter his attention. It was decided lo obtain estimates of the cost of fitting up a portion of the temporary town hall to make a room suitable for housing the lending library as at present the library is housed in premises for which rent has to be paid. From the secretary of the Muneipal Association notice was received advising the council that the next annual municipal conference would be held at Wanganui on Wednesday 6th March next in the Council Chambers at 9.30 a.m., and requesting that delegates be appointed. The Mayor and town clerk were appointed to represent the c6uncil. The town clerk stated that the Foxton remit asking that the subsidy for country libraries be granted to towns of 2000 population and under had duly appeared on tho order papier, for consideration by the conference. Mr Bradcock wrote asking that the council asphalt- the footpath fronting his residence in Harbour street, as far as the -junction with Clyde street. PERSONAL. Misses A. and H. Holst, of Wanganui, are at present V visiting -Poston where they are the • guests of Mr and Mrs J. K. Hornblow. ' Mr and Mrs Laley, of Palmerston North, are at present on a holiday visit to Manawatu Heads. Mr and Mrs A. Fraser and Misses O. and N. Fraser, who have been on holiday in the North Auckland district, have returned to Foxton. v Miss Lowe, who has been on holiday in Foxton, has returned to Wanganui. Mr L. Couch has resumed duties after •his annual leave. Mr and Mrs P. Smith of Master/on are on holiday at Manawatu Heads. Messrs R. L. Heath and D. Brooks have returned from a holiday in the Auckland province. Mr and Mrs H. Hornblhw, of Nelson, are spending a holiday in Foxton ns the guests of Mr and Mrs W. E. Barber. Mr A. N. Smith, of Dunedin, who was for many years in business in Foxton visited the scene of his former activities over the week end, and stayed with his brother Mr G. F. Smith. During His short visit he renewed many friendships. Mr Smith served for some time as a borough councillor in Foxton and expressod his pleasure to. find that many of his former colleagues were still holding office.
