MILSON BRIDGE LIGHTS
WILL NOT SHINE AT NIGHT. The four opaque-glassed globes set on their standards which ornament tho new overhead bridge in Milson line by day are not likely to bo utilised for their primary purpose until such time as the Kairanga County Council and the Public Works department come to an agreement as to how the cost of the necessary powor is to bo allocated. At yesterday's meeting of tho Council a letter was received from the Under-Secretary of tho department stating that the Railway department would not pay for tho powor as the lights were of no direct use to it. Councillors were not in accord with this statement being of the opinion that 90 per cent of the people using the bridge were railway employees. Cr. Anderson was definite that the Railway department should shoulder the responsibility adding that they had been high-handed and contemptuous of the council’s wishes in regard to the construction of the bridge. Tho clerk was instructed to write tho department stating the council’s opinion.
