POWER BOARD AND CARNIVAL WEEK

At tlie -'meeting of the ManawatuOrbua Power Board held in Palmerston North yesterday, tho Board dealt with a request-from the Feilding Retailers’ Association that it be granted the loan of poles, etc., for the illuminating of Kowhai park during the carnival commencing on -February 4. The chairman of the Board (Mr. J. A. Nash) said that he was not opposed to the request provided the Board was not involved in any expense, but he was of the-opinion that the Association should pay for the power used. Mr. J. Hodgens stated that it would mean no. loss to the Board in supplying current free, provided the peak load was mot increased. Mr. M. A. Eliott thought that as tho Association was charging admission and was not a charitable organisation, the Board was not entitled to make a concession beyond the Joan of poles and material. On the motion of tho chairman, it was finally decided to lend the Association the gear on tho terms outlined. In declaring the motion carried, Mr. N.'sh stated that when the account for lighting was settled, the Board could consider a rebate or a donation to the Association.
