LAND DRAINAGE

MANAWATU BOARD MEETS. At the meeting of the Mnnawatu Drainage Board yesterday there were present Trustees P. J. Small (chairman), D. Collis, M. A. Eliott, E. W. Collins and E. Wood. Engineer’s Report. The engineer (Mr. A. H. M. Wright) reported as follows on the work carried cut during tho month:— Manga one stream.—A short length of this stream in Messrs. Russell and Bennett’s property has been widened and straightened which, with the exception of the length through hailway reserve being carried out bv the Public Works Department, will complete this work from Rangitikci line to I'oxton line. A small party was also employed in removing timber amd willow trees obstructing tlic stream between Setter’s and Robert’s line. Some rails have been carted to the floodgate at Rangiotu for use in proposed protection work there. The Finances.

General. The Palmerston North Borough Council advised that the question of re-electing tho Boundary road bridge would be considered in the New Year. The Council had decided to approach the Railway Department for a contribution toward the cost. Ten per cent, penalty is to be added to all rates outstanding on February 28. It was decided to ask the Palmerston North Borough Council to receive a deputation on February 4 with reference to the Man gone. _ It was resolved to give ratepayers notice of the steps it is proposed to take to improve the joint outlet.
