NEW ZEALAND BAND CONTEST
MUSIC OF HIGH STANDARD. RECENTLY PERFORMED AT CRYSTAL PALACE. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Last Night. Matters in connection with band contest affairs are progressing favourabl and at last night’s meeting, certain drastic alterations were proposed- to tho marching regulations by the South Island brass band association, but these have been negatived for the timo being by the North Island brass bands association, it being considered unfair to ask bands to comply with the proposals at the coming New Zealand band contest to be held at Wanganui. It was stated that entries were excellent; namely, A grade 13, B grade 15, hymn test 24, solo entries 494. Tho selections are the same as those recently taken at the Crystal Palace, and aro declared by conductors to bo tho finest sets for many years. They will bo taken in tho open air. Advice has been roceivod from London that Mr T. J. Rees, adjudicator of Wales, accompanied by his wife, sailed for New Zealand, via Panama, and should reach Wellington by February 11, two weeks before the contest commences. Owing to the large number of inquiries for accommodation, a private accommodation bureau is to be established on the same lines as the one in connection with the Dunedin exhibition.
