Rev. W. H. E. Abbey, of Aromoho, was a visitor to Palmerston Nortt yesterday. Owing to business matters Mrs. Hildebrandt had to leave Palmerston North for Napier for a few days. Mr. H. E. Paccy, managing director of the Glaxo manufacturing company, left for England yesterday by Rotorua. He will return to New Zealand in July. Dr Wells has been appointed to take the place of Dr. Pitcaithley, resigned, at the Palmerston North Hospital. It is officially announced in London that Sir Basil Blackett becomes chairman and Lord Clarendon director of the communications company which is taking over the cable and wireless services. The death occurred at Wanganui yesterday of Mr. Wilfred Haywood, who resided in Palmerston North for many years. Deceased was at one time a member of the Times staff .as linotype operator and day foreman. Ho leaves a widow and family. The Minister of Health (Hon. Stallworthy) will visit almerston North in his official capacity on Monday next staying overnight. The Palmerston North Hospital Board is making arrangements to entertain him. . Mr. E. M. Shortt, a director and manager of John Chambers and Son, Ltd., Dunedin, has been appointed managing director of the company, with headquarters at Auckland. Mr. Shortt has just returned from an extended business trip abroad. The following honorary appointments for the year were made by the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday:—Surgeons, Drs. P.T. Putnam, D. S. Wylie, J. Millar, G. A. Forrest; surgeon to the children’s ward, Dr. D. H. Bett; ear* eye, nose, and throat specialists, Drs. J. S. Munro and Bransgrove; dentist, Mr J. S. Hornblow; assistant surgeon, Dr. Salmond (Feilding)-
