LOVE TRAGEDY OF GIFTED PAINTER

The newspapers' are giving prominence to the love tragedy of Frederick Atkinson, a gifted painter, aged 20, who committed suicide in his studio at Maida Vale, London. Atkinson ha”d a passionate affair with the celebrated Dolores, the model oi Epstein and other famous artists. Atkinson was the son of a Yorkshire miner and was an apprenticed signwriter until Mr Rotheram, an art nlaster, advised him to go to London at any cost. Atkinson borowed £2 10s from an aunt, which was barely enough for the railway fare. But he was so successful in London that he furnished a studio and saved £2OO within two years. Then he had tho misfortune to see Dolores posing for a brother artist. Immediately ho fell desperately in love with her and lavished his savings upon the woman, though she is 38 years of age and married. Finally heart-broken, the boy committed suicide. Dolores stated in an interviow today: "I am not a girl. I have lived. He was so earnest that I befriended him."
