SERIOUS FIRE IN EDINBURGH
BANKERS’ CLEARING HOUSE GUTTED.
Australian Press Association. Received Wednesday, 2.0 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 8. One of the biggest fires in Edinburgh in recent years destroyed the Bankers’ clearing house ,which is on the north side of Saint Andrew’s Square, overlooking the Scottish national portrait gallery and -the premises of several largo insurance companies. the absence of wind enabled the other buildings to be saved, though the clearing house was gutted.
