DIAMOND FIELDS IN NAMAQUALAND

CONFLICT INEVITABLE. Telegraph—Copyright. United Press Association —By Electric CAPETOWN, Jan. 4. The situation at Namaqualand is becoming strained. The few thousand disaffected residents who claim the right to participate in the wealth of the diamond fields have been augmented by hundreds from the Vaal river fields, including some desperadoes. Monday’s programme aims at thJ boarding of lorries, after a demonstration at Port Nolloth, and travelling, 60 miles to the State diggings at Alexander Bay. It is regarded as impossible for the police to defend the 20-mile frontage, even if guarded by barbed wire. A conflict seems inevitable.
