FEILDING’S CARNIVAL WEEK
PROGRAMME CONSIDERED. BOOKLET TO BE ISSUED. Suggestions for the programme in connection with Feilding's forthcoming carnival week were enthusiastically discussed at a meeting of the retailers' committee of the Eeilding chamber of commerce on Friday night. Other engagements kept many from being in attendance but those present had a beneficial round the table discussion which should lead to the. drawing up of a comprehensive programme for a week of festivities to synchronise with, tho Feilding A. and P. association's annual show and ram fair early in February. , Mr. C. S. Jeffs presided, and broadly outlined a skeleton programme and invited suggestions and a free discussion. It was the aim to seeuro the fullest co-operation from every retailer in the town and with this end in view, it was proposed to issue a booklet, similar to that issued by Cambridge and Napier on the occasion of their, carnivals. This publication would be in tho form, of an attractive souvenir, illustrated with pictures of Feilding and appropriate reading matter dealing with the town’s development, industries and advantages as a place in which to settle. The idea was to publish about 3000 of these ami post them to every householder in the town nnd district, so that all advertisers would,’ by supporting the booklet, bo sure of the utmost representation. These booklets would bo numbered and prizes would be offered to the holders of books bearing the lucky numbers. The meeting discussed the matter fully and unanimously agreed to go ahead with the publication, the matter of interviewing the various retailers being left to Mr. 0. C. Sporle. Items of the programme wer<| fully considered and suggestions offered for elaborating different items. It was thought that provision should be made for the inclusion of itegis during the afternoons, such as children's novelty events which it was argued might be run in the town on Kimbolton road. Decorated vehicles will be taking part in big processions and if enthusiasm is worked up, a real gala time willresult. Discussion continued till a late hour and the enthusiasm which prevailed augurs well for the success of the proposed carnival. A further meeting is to be called, when a greater muster of retailers is anticipated. Bigger things are in view after this carnival for tho staging of a grander effort.
