PALMERSTON TENNIS TOURNEY

ENTRIES CLOSE TO-NIGHT. The annual tennis tournament conducted on the Palmerston club’s courts in Linton street is one of the most popular fixtures in the North Lsland. The 1929 tourney commences on Monday, and although entries do not close till this evening there are already indications that many of New Zealand's leading exponents of the game will be present. One of the finalists for the New Zealand singles championship, C. E. Malfroy, has entered, while another of the most brilliant of the Dominion’s younger players, A. C. Stedman, will also bo seen in action. These two did not meet in Auckland, and a contest between them here will be worth going a long way to see. Other championship contestants who have nominated early include Griffiths (Auckland) and Rhode Williams (Wellington), while the Misses Nicholls and Howe (Wellington) are among the lady entrants.
