On the eve of tho funeral, with military honours, of an cx-scrvicc man named Lovell, who was killed while saving a threc-ycar-old child from being run over during the armistice celebrations in Limchousc, another cxserviccman sought permission to soe the body. Following a scrutiny of it, he said: \ “I thought so. We were together in France. Ho saved my life. I was wounded duftng a gas attack. Lovell took off his respirator and. gave it to me, 1 saying: ‘You tako it, mate! I can run.’ “I had not seen him since.” The Mayor of Poplar is raising a fund for ,Lovell’s widow and seven children. Ten thousand followed tho cortege through tho crowded streets.
