MOTOR ACCIDENTS COST HOSPITAL £I2OO A YEAR

PEES SHOULD BE PIRST CHARGE ON INSURANCE A report to the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday revealed the fact that motor accidents were costing the Hospital £I2O(J per year. The secretary (Mr. A. J. Phillips) stated that 29 cases had been admitted in the last three months and each case cost approximately £lO. Sir J. G. Wilson (chairman) reflected that at the rate of 29 cases each three months, the cost to the Board would be in the vicinity o£ £I2OO per year and under the best circumstances the Board could not expect to recover more than £COO of amount. A new Act was providing for third party insurance arid it was suggested that the next conference of Hospital Boards should be asked to request that hospital fees should be. the first charge upon tho insurance. He thought that would be a fair thing. ' Mr J A. Nash stated that the insurance'would only cover the driver and not a passenger. The Act might be enlarged a little later. _ The Board adopted the chairman’s suggestion.
