NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM TO EXPAND
SOUTH KENSINGTON TREASURES NOW PACKED AND HIDDEN FOR LACK OF SPACE. LONDON. It is likely that an extension of the Natural History Museum at South Kensington will soon be begun—and not before it is needed, since already many of the museum’s treasures are pacl«d away and hidden from the public because of lack of space, and every month there are additions being made from all parts of the Empire. The latest of these acquisitions on a large scale is the Oberthur collection of butterflies and moths, containing many rare and lovely specimens. It is the finest collection of its kind that has been added to the museum. There are butterflies and moths from China, Tibet, Madagascar, and the remotest parts of Africa and India, It took 13 vans to bring the collection from France. It, too, has been stored in .basements of tho museum, and will probably take several years to bo assimilated inti the other butterfly and moth collections. It will, therefore, bo some time before the public has access to it.
