DISBURSING PATRIOTIC FUNDS TO EX-SOLDIERS
£I2OO PAID OUT LAST QUARTER. Many cases of hardship amongst returned soldiers were reviewed and assistance given according to the merits of each case, by the Manawatu Patriotic Society’s executive on Tuesday. A largo number of applications continue to be received. The Mayor (Mr. A. J. Graham) presided, there being also present: Dr. D. H. Bett, Messrs. J. A. Nash, M.P., B. J. Jacobs, J. H. Stevens, 11. N. Cook, A. Mathieson and T. E. French.
Mr. J. Blackwood (hon, treasurer) acknowledged the message of condolence sent to him in his recent bereavement.
The treasurer presented the financial statement for the quarter ending September 30. • , ,
A large amount had been distributed since the last meeting for the relief of sick and wounded ex-soldiers and ilheir dependents. Accounts totalling approximately £I2OO were passed, which sura represented chiefly payments to beneficiaries.
