POLICE ACCUSED OF CONSPIRACY
PRISONER GAINS NOTHING. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 5. Strong condemnation of the action taken by a prisoner who in the course of his trial for theft raised the allegation that tho charge against him had been concocted by the police was made by Mr. Justice Reed, when George Ashton Ferguson, aged 34, a c.crk, ax>* peared for sentence on two charges ox theft of goods. In spite of the jury a recommendation, to mercy, Mr. Justice Reed said that he would be lacking in his duty if he did not take this into consideration in inflicting the p * * Accused was sentenced to reformat! o detention for 13 months and was also ordered to pay £3O costs of the P* cution, in default three months hard la Thomas Houston, aged 37, a , P os | office supervisor, was sentenced to months’ reformative detention on charge of opening a postal packet. Harry Honor, aged 6b, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour for indecent assault.
