From Our Own Correspondent. Mr. J. Aim. who has been sorious’r ill in tho Palmerston North hospital, returned home on Saturday. Miss A. Brown has left Shannon for Raetihi, where she has taken up a position with a drapery firm. Bowls. The first round of the triangular shield contest will take place at Fox* ton to-day. With the inclusion of Otaki, home clubs will only be required to find three rinks instead of four, as in the past. Tennis Club, The opening of tho Tennis Club took place on Saturday in ideal weather. Visitors were present from Palmerston North, Otaki. Levin and Mangaero. Tho president (Mr. E. T. Moody) in extending a hearty welcome to the visitors and new members, stated that though the club had lost many valued members, it was more than probable the membership would be in excess of last year. An effort would bo made to reduce tho club’s mortgage he asked for the members’ hearty co-op eration.
Mrs. T. Moynihan was then requested to hit up the first ball, which was accompanied with acclamation. Mr. J. B. Taylor, secretary, arranged the games until a late hour, and afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. In the evening a dance was held in the Parish hall. Messrs Moody and Guy acted as M.O.’s and the music was provided hy Miss Purcell (piano), Mr. Purcell (violin), Mrs. Jones, Misses May Butler and Sylvia Quarrie.
