Having drawn up a policy for conducting the waterfront strike, the conference of maritime transport unions has concluded. Water* side unionists are to . -fuse ta license under the Transport Act, and the dispute must be confined to its present limits. The conference decided to take no action to end the strike. Plans were formulated whereby other unions should provide financial assistance for the strikers and their dependants. Inquest on Two Volunteers WITNESS’S NAME WITHHELD. At the inquest on two men who were killed while working cargo as volunteers on theiwharves, the Coroner re-, turned a verdict of accidental death, and asked the Press not to publish the name of a volunteer worker witness, who feared the vengeance of the strikers. Watersiders Will Try to Extend War V .BRISBANE MAKES PROPOSALS,, SHORTAGE OF VOLUNTEER LABOUR AT WHARVES. Received Tuesday, 2.0 a.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 8. It is believed the watersiders will immediately move to extend the strike to other transport organisations, as the resumption proposal has been defeated. A number of vessels arrived during the week-end and although 1800 volunteers are working, there is still a shortage of labour. The Brisbane watersiders have decided to recommend the Council of Trades Unions to negotiate a settlement on the lines of the removal of free labour from every port, the sus; pension of the Beeby Award, the restoration of all previous conditions, the repeal of the Transport Workers Act, and reinstatement of all Unionists. At a meeting of Fremantle wharf labourers, to-day, a motion to resume work was declared carried but was challenged by a largo section and the disputes committee is now seeking a way out of the Impasse,
