MANAWATU-OROUA POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The regular monthly meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board was hold yesterday. There were present: Messrs. J, A. Nash, M.P., (in the chair), : M. A. Elintt, P. J. Small, J. Hodgens, L. T. McLean, H. H. Hunt, J. S. Tingey, F-, Roberts,. 0.. McElroy, A. Campbell, and Sir James Wilson. An apology for absence was received from Mr. J. Linklatcr, M.P. Mr. C. Newman, of. Kairanga, wrote asking the Board to purchase, macroearpa trees on his property which had been cut to clear the Board’s linos. The matter-was left in the hands of the engineer. The Minister of Public Works wrote with reference to the advisability of offering a substantial reward for tho conviction of persons found tampering with power lines. This was a type of offence now happily ,on the decrease, but at the same time Boards would be well advised to offer rewards should they consider such to be necessary. Mr. Nash stated that he had raised the question in the House with a view to obtaining Government action. The letter %vas received. Engineer's Report. Tho chief engineer of the Board, Mr.. W. A, Waters, reported .as follows for the month of September:’ '' ' ■’* y ■ One gang has been employed on the Stanway-Waituna Tie Line. The high tension wiring was completed to Perry ’s Corner, where a transformer was erected! Low tension was completed 40 chains further on to enable us to supply a milking shod. ;; The gang was then taken off this line to carry out work on Cliff road, Kimbolton, where another milking motor was urgently required. This line'„is >; pow .complete and service made. The'gaug Jms returned to Stan-way-Waituna Line on pole erection. Another gang was also employed on the Eewa-Livingstono Line, which is' now complete giving a supply to 5 light, 2 range and pne milking motor consumers, A small lifla is now being built tapping "the main feeder, at tho Pakihikura road Corner to give a supply to 2 range consumers. Poles are carted and a start made in erection. This gang also erected a 15-ehain service at tho Otara Bridge.fdf- a "pump motor. A further consignment of steel poles have arrived; Aho-total number unloaded being 552. In addition to these three trucks of silver pines have been unloaded, beingAho balance from Pokako.

Tho extension off Main drain road is now completed and another transformer erected ia Taikorea area, A number of long service lines to cowsheds were built during: the month, and a considerable amount of necessary work re-grouping transformers, etc., in the Kairanga and..'Manawatu Counties to cope with increasing loads. ’ . /
