The following is my report for the period ended July 7, 1928: ; ; Cheltenham Biding: The usual maim, tcnanco ■work has received attention throughout the riding during the past month.' The county dump -trucks have ;anco metal on Kimbolton road and o 0 *;, t . cubic yards on Sinclair’s line ■where the harrow bends -were’ recently improved. Thefee sections of the main highway also been trimmed with the: grader and tho pot holes repaired. I intend to have some repair work done on Levett’s and. Barrow’s lines during tho current 'month. * fcjj.ifsKiwitea Riding: The.Kimbolton road •it, section of tho No. 52 main highway,has received attention with the grader, and po't holo repairs have been carried out on' the Kimbolton road and Perry’s - line. 1,,-The usual maintenance work in thp pature of cleaning put water channeis'.and culverts and repairs to road surfaces has been attended to. Waituna Biding; The grader plant ■„' has, been engaged in this riding widening and improving the new section of the main highway on the Eangitikei Valley road and Eewa hill, and the large stones have been taken out on a :■ .section of this road, in order to prepare thd road surface for a dressing of fine ‘ mctali The contractor has made a start ‘■delivering maintenance metal oh this )/-road,-and 200 cubic yards of first class ~ .metal having been delivered to ’date, ’ fair progress is being made with the VoVt of improving narrow bends on Eewa hill, and the usual maintenance wqyk .on pll roads has received attention..:; - Ongo Biding; The surfaceman has attended to all maintenance work in the riding ,and good work has been done in opening up storm water outlets, repairing pot holes, and picking out large stones on the road surfaces. I hope to bo able to cart about 50 cubic yards of maintenance metal on Sinclair’s road during the current month for pot hole repair work. Kimbolton Biding: Tho surfacemen ‘.4iavc been engaged the greater part of

tho month cleaning out water channels, repairing road surfaces and cutting back over hanging fern and scrub. Two bad bends on the Otamakapua road hayo been widened and the work of metalling same is now in progress. 3 have instructed tho roadman to strip and prepare a limited quantity of maintenance metal on Junction road for the purpose of repairing tho worst sections of M'Beth’s road.

Peep o’ Day Biding: On the eastern section of this riding the roadman has been engaged cleaning out water tables, 'cutting back overhanging fern and scrub,, and attending to road surface work. A few loads of metal have been carted out to improve the approach to the ford at tho Kiwitea stream on the Peep o’..:Day" road. On tho western side of the riding the usual maintenance work has received .attention, and the roadman has also attended to the trimming of the new metal on the Pakihiknra road. The large earth slide off the Mangapapa road is again showing signs!::of moving. " General:' The . construction of ■ new bridge and filling work over Hayne’a creek on the Cheltenham cross road is almost completed. * Report of Overseer for Northern Hidings., ! ' . ; Tho following is my report for the period ended July 7, 1928: — Pakihikura Biding: Approximately :I0 miles of'tho Sandon block road have bepn graded, during the past month, and all' the tig stones have been picked our. Thp metal carted out by the No. 3 dump for pot holes and weak places has been, tipped in convenient heaps, and will be placed , on the road as required. "When the worst places have been attended to the lorry will be. put in dock until favourable weatntr conditions prevail. Eangiwahia Biding: During the past month 221 cubic yards of metal from the. Peep o’ Day pit, and 31 I cubic yards of screened, river metal .from Karowarewa have.been put out on the Otamakapua road. Pot holes have been attended to on the Whare road and the weak places and water tables on the Mangoira road have received' attention. The usual maintenance work hat been carried out on the main south road and the big stones on the Auputa road have been picked out and the surface topdressed with dine metal from Karewarewa. The Cement pipes arc now. on tho ground to replaccThe old wooden bridge which partly collapsed and enough pipes are there in readiness to replace one of the other bridges which may go at any time. ‘ Eautapu Biding: During the wet weather numerous small slips came down, mostly in the upper Kawhatau, and these" have been attended to and. the usual maintenance work carried on. A set of cement pipes has been put in opposite Mr. M*Cord’s, and a wain dug . to' cope with- the extra storm water winch in the past has caused a Ibt-'pf damage. On 'the MangawKararikl road the usual maintenance Work has been carried out, an'd a smalTslip clear-' ■sdTCwSy?and weak places repaired with pit metal. , ,-./■■■ .■ r . • : : :■ ; Resolutions.; That notice bo' served upon tho own-, ers of properties to remove branches of trees overhanging tho roads and footpaths in various parts of the county. That Mr. F. H.
