GOOD PROGRESS LAST FEW DAYS ERECTING WEIR
REPORTS ENGINEER ON s DAM CLEANING WORK.
Interviewed yesterday by a * Times’ reporter, the Palmerston North Borough engineer (Mr. J. E. Hughes) stated that excellent progress had been made during the last few days with the work of erecting the weir above the Tiritea reservoir for dam cleaning purposes. The stream level had been low and the men engaged on the operations had been able to forge ahead rapidly. \ The weir is now at' its full heignt of 17 feet for two-thirds of the way across. The next procedure will be the diverting of the stream through the sluice gate provided at the bottom of the weir. When that is done, the excavations for the building, up of the remaining third of the weir will bo proceeded with.
