Treadwell referred to.tho amendment to the Municipal Corporations Act which had passed its first reading in tho House, and asked the Commission, whether they had any information on tho question. Tho chairman said that tho amending Bill attacked thematter from the point of view of valuation and was different from tho scopeof the Commission. The Commission was concerned with the rating of rural; lands in boroughs, not although tho .valuations, affected rating. When giving his evidence-before the Commission of Enquiry into tho rating of rural lands in boroughs at Feilding on Tuesday, Sir George Foiwlds was sub-, jeeted to a very lengthy cross-esamina-. tiou respecting his advocacy of rating on the 'unimproVed value, during tlio course'of which witness confessed that; that, basis was not altogether the remedy for the cvil r of injustice in local body .taxation. He admitted to tho, Commission that some system of'differentiation., would perhaps provide' a. remedy for the present difficulties.. ; .
