PALMERSTON TO HAVE SPRING ROYAL SHOW

IN CONJWNCTION WITH MANAWATU SPRING FIXTURE At yesterday ’s meeting of , the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, the 'deputy, president, Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., who stated that arrangements had been made to hold the next Royal Show in Palmerston orth in conjunction with the annual? Spring Show of’ the Manawatu A and P. Association. ' ;■ ' ■ In making this important announce- 1 ment, Mr. Linklater. took the opportunity of extending a very hearty welcoine to Messrs W. Perry / (president); and W. Howard Booth, two members of the Council of the Royal Society, who wore present at the meeting. ' Tentative Arrangement.

The secretary of the Association, Mr, W, T. Penny, then reported that; a dele-', gation consisting, Of Messrs Wm. Perry (president), W. Howard Booth, Q. Donald, and J.-Knight, representing the Royal Society, had waited upon the finance committee of the Association on; Monday, and had made tentative arrangements as to classes and prize money during the Show. . . Briefly, the arrangements were; (1) That the Royal Society should subsidise the Manawatu and West Coast Association by £1000; (2) that the prize money should not exceed £2000; (3) that any.possible profit be divided; (4) that any. judges from outside New Zealand have any extra expenses paid by the Royal Society.: . When ho had had time to set out the proposed classes and prizes, Mr. Penny stated tho general schedule committees would be called together to go through them before finalising matters with the society’s sub-committee. In replying to tho welcome extended by Mr. Linklater, Mr Perry congratu-’ lated the committee on advancing a proposition which had made it possible for the Royal Society to . again join Manawatu in holding ,a-Royal Show in Palmerston North. The agreement which had been reached, 1 was practically a partnership.?-; Tho Royal Society had always been strongly supported by the Manawatu Association, indeed the Association h?,d been . largely responsible for its coming into being at all. He felt pleased to be able to say that such workable and amicable arrange-, ments had been made. They were all but to make the Royal fixture a success from financial and all other aspects, and he was satisfied that they •would have the greatest Show ever held in the North Island., , Support the Society. la seconding Mr. Perry's remarks, Mr. Howard Booth, stated that some breeders were inclined to forget that there was such a thing as , a Royal Society. It was the duty of all exhibitors to-give the Society every support, and maintain it as a live body)* He would like to congratulate the Manawatu Association on the success they made of their Shows; personally he thought it was one of the foremost associations in New Zealand. Messrs Perry and Booth then withdrew.
