Belief to owners of farm lands within boroughs not suitable foe sub-division is provided for in the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment Bill read a first time in the House to-day- . ’The new .provision is to apply io holdings of over three acres used solely for farming and %hich are hot suitable for building purposes or likcly to be required for such purposes within a reasonable time. If the council expresses its, .c.oucur* ronco by special resolution and the Valuer-General agrees the’ assessment of the capital value is to be reduced to an extent by which the value of the land is lowered by reason oft the purpose for which it is used. ' Y The rates on property thus affected are to bo based on the pew valuation. But this valuation is not to bo valid or effectual for any other purpose. The provisions with the necessary modifications i are to apply to any town district not forming ■ part of any county. 1 . Several petitions suggesting action on these lines are at present before the House. .
