Rongotea
From Our Own Correspondent. St. Simon and St. Jude’s Church. The annual general meeting of the parishioners of St. Simon and St. Jude’s Church was held in the Masonic Hall on Monday evening. There was a fairly good attendance considering _ the rough weather. The financial report was read and adopted showing quite a substantial credit balance. Mr. Kelly thanked the people for the kind welcome ho and Mrs Kelly had received since they came to Eongotea. He also thanked the vestry (especially Mr Dixon) for the trouble they wont to in purchasing a suitabls car for the parish. It is very satisfactory in every way. He thought that if everybody worked together as one body instead of being divided up into the variohs districts as they are now the congregations in the different centres would be larger and the diffi-
culty of finance would be overcome to a certain extent. : As it is now each centre has to raise a certain sum of money each year and in some cases the amount was far too largo for the number of parishioners in that partieula! centre, whereas if they , all worked together the total sum would be raised by the help of each parishioner. Mr. Kelly thanked the choir for their services during the past year and expressed regrett to learn that so many of the members had left the district during the year, but hoped it would soon pick up again and brighten the singing in church. Ho also thanked the Sunday school teachers for what they had done, and said that one of the teachers would soon bo leaving th cdistrict. The Sunday school badly needed more teachers for the number of pupils attending. Mr Kelly then thanked the Ladies’ Guild for the way in which they had contributed to the funds of the church. In conclusion, he hoped the people would all try and. work together and help him in his work as much as iiossiblo during the coming year. Election of Officials. The following officials were elected: Vicars’ warden, Mr. Croad; people’s warden, Mr. F. Wright; vestry, Eongotca, Mr. Liggins, Mr P. Vallcndor (subject to consent, Mr Fenwick; Carnarvon; Mr B. Mr Croad, on behalf of the vestry, thanked the Ladies’ Guild for their help during the year and said had it not been for their help the financial report would not have shown such a lino credit balance. Ho also passed a vote of thanks to the organist, Sunday school teachers and the secretary of the Communicants Guild (Mrs E. J. Eoso). Mr. Gaze on behalf of the vestry passed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Croad (secretary of the- vestry) for the way iu which lie had worked unceasingly for the good of the church.’ Mrs Osborne, on behalf of the Glen Oroua people, also passed a hearty vote of thanks to Air Croad for what he had done to help that centre.
