PREPARING FOR THE APPROACHING SHOW

A AND P. ASSOCIATION MAKES ARRANGEMENTS. Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., presided over the regular monthly meeting of the ! general committee of tho . Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, which was held yesterday morning. List of Judges. The secretary of the New Zealand Royal Agricultural Society wrote stating that, at the recent annual conference, of the Society, it was decided to issue a new list of judges which would be compiled in two parts. (1) The official list of judges as supplied by the various breed societies. (2) A supplementary list supplied by the various A. and P’. associations. The Royal Society therefore requested that lists of men competent to act as judges in the various classes in the Society’s Show schedules, bo forwarded as soon as possible. The letter was received. The director of the Jubilee Institute of the Blind, Mr. Clutha N. McKenzie wrote thanking the association fot granting the Institute free space for a stall at tho show. The Royal Show.

Mr. M. A. Conway briefly addressed the meeting upon the recent proceedings at the conference of the New Zealand Royal Agricultural Society, which ho attended as the delegate of the Manawatu association. Ho had impressed upon the Royal Society, the fact that the Manawatu association was keenly desirous of seeing the next Royal Show a success, and to that end, was decidedly of tho opinion that it should be combined with the Manawatu association’s next spring fixture. Ho had pointed out to tho Royal Society, that their holding tho Royal Show as a separate fixture in January as they proposed, would result in a considerable monetary loss to them. He hoped that his remarks would lead to the society’s arriving the decision to hold their fixture in conjuntion with tho Manawatu and West Coast Association’s spring show. The Fanners’ Train.

Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., brought up tlio question of finding accommodation for visitors arriving by the farmers’ train on Tuesday, 19th inst. at 8.20 p.m. They had a duty as an association, said Mr. Nash, to see that the necessary arrangements for these visitors should bo made.

After some discussion, it was decided to pencil in accommodation for the visitors at Podding, Longburn, Bunnythorpe and Ashhurst. Messrs M. A. Conway and H. V. Lethbridge were appointed to meet the train at Marton, and superintend the allocation of accommodation for the visiting farmers. A number of members signified their willingness to meet the train on arrival at Palmerston North and look after the visitors Various other arrangements in connection with the reception of the farmers were finalised, Mr. Nash expressing the hope that the Manawatu and West Coast Association would make a good name for themselves in their treatment of the visitors Toot and Mouth Disease. Hon. O. J. Hawkeh, Minister of Agriculture, wrote stating that his Department was fully in accord with the Manawatu association’s remit with regard to the prevention of the importation of stock likely to bo infected with foot and mouth disease. The Dopartfent would point out, however, that the. importation of stock likely to bo infected, was already prohibited.

As a result of very pressing representations of late, however, the Department had been considering the importation, under very stringent regulations, of stud stock from Great Britain, where the disease, although by no means stamped out, was not, at present, wide-spread. However, no decision had as yet been reached on the subject, but the association could rest assured that the question was receiving the most earnest consideration from all points of view.
