TRYING EXPERIENCE LOT OF CREW WHEN TRAWLER WRECKED

SANFORD’S LATEST GOES ASHORE AT COROMANDEL Feared Vessel is Total Loss Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The trawler James Bryan, belonging to Sandforcl Ltd., is hard and last on hor beam ends at Rauparoa Heads, near Port Charles, Coromandel Peninsula. All the crew are safe at Coromandel. The trawler was returning to Auckland with a load of fish. Later information from Port Charles regarding the wreck of the trawler, Thomas Bryan, states that the vessel ran ashore in thick dirty weather. It is thought the vessel will probably be a total wreck. The Company’s trawler Baroona has been despatched to bring the crew back to the city. ■ The crew of eleven had a trying experience. They improvised a rope ladder when the trawler went ashore and wore thus able to scramble to safety. They were unable to scale the high cliffs in the dark of night but as soon as the first streaks of dawn were visible they commenced the arduous climb reaching Port Charles post office, at ten this morning. The trawler had been operating in the Bay of Plenty and was on its way to Auckland with a load of fish. She was the latest addition to Sanford’s fleet, having arrived from England last August. ’ She was insured for £6OOO.
