ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
FEILDING ACTIVITIES, The council of the Feilding and District Acclimatisation Society met on Friday night, those present being Messrs. F. H. Stockwell, C. Gray, P. P. Stevens, T. Burn, J. H. Hurdle, E. H. Lange, P. M‘Elroy, F. H. Billing, W. .Winn, B. Durrant, and A. H. Marshall (secretary). Mr. Stockwcll was unanimously reflected chairman, those present paying high tribute to his generous services to the organisation. / A motion of sympathy with Mr. W. Ingram, an ex-member of the council, who recently met with an accident, was carried. Advice was received from tho Apiti ranger that during the season sportsmen had taken 40 stags and 30 hinds, the heads ranging from 14 points down. Pheasants liberated in the district were doing well, but partridges were scarce, owing to rabbit poisoning operations. The chairman and Mr. Durrant were appointed to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand .Society. Permission was granted Mr. 11. A. Fraser, of Fcilding, to keep pheasants in captivity for breeding purposes... It was decided to obtain a quote from the Hawke’s Bay hatcheries for 21,000’ brown and rainbow fry. In connection with the Government authority respecting an extension of time for the shooting of deer, it was decided that stags over 10 points could bo taken without restriction as to numbers, and no restriction be placed on the taking of hinds.. Mr. A. H. Marshall was to-elected treasurer for the ensuing year. A motion seeking to place hares on the protected list was defeated.
