ENTRIES FOR WINTER SHOW

PREPARATIONS WELL IN HAND. All preparations for the Manawatu A. and P. Association’s forthcoming Winter Show arc well ahead at the present time . Work on the new entertainment hall and Plunket hall is now almost' completed, and the workmen are busily employed in putting the finishing touches to the floors. Space in the halls has been well filled up, while some of the intending exhibitors have cov menced making their first preparations. No less than 20 breed and other societies will hold their annual meetings during the show, while the National Dairy Association’s conference, which has been absent from Palmerston North for some years, will be in progress also. The chief attractions in the oval will be as follows: Tuesday, sheep dog trials, Wednesday, Moascar Cup game between To Autc College and Palmerston North Boys’ High School preceded by a curtain raiser soccer match, Manawatu B v. Flock House; Thursday, Wellington Training College v. Palmerston North Old Boys, preceded by a curtain raiser, Oroua v. To Kawau; Friday, ring competitions; Saturday, Palmerston North Boys’ High School first XV. v. Wairarapa High School first XV., preceded by a curtain raiser Palmerston North Boys’ High School second XV. v. Feilding Agricultural College first XV. Four Government departments will be exhibiting this year, -which is a larger number than at previous shows. The departments of Agriculture, Railways, and Forestry will again have stands in the halls, while this year the Health Department has also decided to take space. Another feature which has been I revived is the sheep dog trials, for i which 21 entries have been received.

j An increase of approximately 200 over last year’s general entries is shown for tb.c forthcoming fixture, the numbers now being 1916. Entries received arc as follows: Field roots, 290; potatoes, 68; vegetables, 141; fruit, 118; honey, 61; bacon, 16; needlework, 314; cookery, preserves, and pick--1 les, 409; farmer’s butter, 29; photography, 108; dog trials and ring competitions, 102; fat stock, 139; schools, including forestry anti agriculture root clubs, 86; farm produce and seeds, 35; poultry, 780; pigeons, 337; canaries, 141; making a total of 3174.
