MECHANICAL WARFARE
NEW BOARD IN BRITAIN KEEPING ARMY UP-TO-DATE A “Mechanical Warfare Board” has been set up by the War Office to replace the Mechanical Transport Advisory Board and the Tank and Tracked Transport Mechanical Committee. Lieutenant-General Sir Webb Gillman, Master-General of the Ordnance, will be president, and Colonel C. S. Peck, Director of Mechanisation, will be the vice-president. The new board will act in an advisory capacity on technical problems in connection with mechanised Army transport and secure liaison with {he mechanical engineering industry, so that the Army may be in close touch with engineering progress and commercial production. The board will have the assistance of three past presidents of the Institution of Automobile Engineers—Sir Henry Fowler, Mr. Legros and Dr. Ormandy. “I take it,” said Dr. 'Ormandy, “that we shall be asked to criticise the proposals put forward by Army officers and make suggestions on the technical aspects of the problems of the mechanised Army.”
