NOXIOUS WEEDS CONTROL
THE SUPPLIES OP INSECTS. The Scientific and Industrial Research Council met last Saturday, when an outline of the work which has been accomplished ail’d which is, in hand was submitted. With i regard to; noxious weeds research,''.the report stated that Mr. David Miller took up duty as director it 'the : beginning of May. His report vfas. considered in detail at the last meeting of. the Noxious Weeds Control Cpmruittec, held at Nelson'on May 17; Fhe committee ■ has recommended that an open permit be granted now for the liberation of tyria jacobaeao, and that increasing supplies of this insect bo imported so that it may be extensively liberated in ragwort-infest-ed areas next Beuoso'j. Plans for fuller Vd-operation with overseas research stations were carefully considered, and it is hoped that the proposals suggested will ensure greater supplies of insects to enable the large percentage of losses at present involved in acclimatisation to be avoided. In view of the entomological problems being, brought to the notice’of the Noxious Weed Committee consideration will have to be given to the matter of widening the scope of its. present sphere of activities.
