MANCHESTER STREET SCHOOL

COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Manchester St. School committee was held on Tuesday night, Mr. G. J. Fitzpatrick presiding. The chairman, on behalf of the committee and parents, welcomed Mr. MeElroy, the new headmaster to tha school. The headmaster reported that since May 25 tho roll had increased Irom 484 to 487, the average attendance was 445.6, being 91.7 per cent., the highest attendance on any one day being 463. The average for the present quarter so far was 425.5. Thirteen pupils had been admitted and six left. Six more pupils had been enrolled this week. It was felt that there was no hope of getting the school to a higher grade this year, as it would require an average attendance of 441, but it was hoped to improve the position next year. A circular from the Education Board recommending the stamps and cards system of Saving Bank scheme was received. It was decided that the scheme in operation at present was a better one and it would be continued. The method of selecting the dux of tho school was discussed at some length. It was decided to give a maximum of SO marks for the aggregate marks on the term examination and 10 marks each for conduct during school hours and conduct outside school hours. It was decided to ask the teachers to put on two quad concerts before the end of tho year, to augment tho funds of the committee.
