DANNEVIRKE POWER BOARD
MB. A, E. RANSOM RE-ELECTED. CHAIRMAN. At the annual meeting of the Dannovirkc Power Board yesterday two nominations were received for tho position of chairman, says the “News.” Mr. A. J. C. Runciman said he had very much pleasure in nominating Mr. Grainger for the position. Ho did not do so with any personal feeling to Mr. Ransom. He appreciated tho ability with which Mr. Ransom had carried out his duties and his good service to the board . As he had mentioned on a previous occasion, he did not think tho chairmanship of this board should be a continuous office. Danncvirko County Council had had the honour of its representative occupying tho chair, and ho thought Woodvillc County Council should now have tho honour. Ho was convinced that having a representative of the AVoodvillo County Council as chairman of the board might have the effect of being of considerable assistance in furthering the board’s business in tho southern area. Members would know that there had been a lack of support from Woodvillc —for what reason ho was unable to say. His chief reason for proposing Mir Grainger for the office was that lie was of the opinion that Mr Ransom’s Parliamentary duties to a certain extent over a considerable portion of the year prevented him from giving that attention to the board’s business that was desirable. Mr. J. Elder seconded Mr. Grainger’s nomination. Mr F. Craven said he had pleasure in .nominating Mr. Ransom for a further term. Mr R. S. Chadwick seconded. A secret ballot was taken, which resulted in Mr. Ransom being re-elected, the voting being: Mr. Ransom 5, Mr. Grainger 3. The candidates abstained from voting. Mr Ransom thanked the members for the renewed confidence in him. He rc- | cognised that Mr Runciman had no personal feeling in the matter and that lie had not intention of casting any roflcciion upon his work, lie did not think liis Parliamentary duties wore a handicap, but were, rather of assistance in his services to flic board. Mr Grainger congratulated Mr. Ransom upon his re-election. ITe hoped (hey would all work harmoniously to gather in the, coming year. I The question of tho chairman’s honorarium was taken prior to tho election lof (tie chairman, when Mr Craven mov-
or! that it bo £l5O for tho ensuing year This was seconder! by Mr. 11. Tlorn« and carried. Tho honorarium previously was £2OO por annum.
