A motion of sympathy with Mr. G. W. Healey, manager of tho Palmerston North Municipal Gas Department, in tho death of his mother, was passed at last night’s meeting of tho Council. Mr A. F. Kaufmann, the new general secretary of tho Palmerston North Y.M.C.A., was admitted as a member of International Ilotary at yesterday’s meeting of tho Club. Mr. Felix M. Kcesing, late general secretary of the Y.M.C.A., in Palmerston North, was warmly welcomed back at yesterday’s lunekeon of the Eotary Club. Other visitors welcomed were Messrs S. Orr, B. Batty, M. N. Wallace (Palmerston North) and C. W. Arnott (London). A telegram from Gisborno states that Mr. Bichard Bach, whoso 'death was announced yesterday, aged 82 years, arrived in Auckland 70 years ago in the ship Gertrude, his father having brought in that vessel the sections of a smaller vessel with which to institute a shipping service on the New Zealand coast. The little boat was fitted together in Auckland and ran for many years between Auckland and Thames. The death occurred on Sunday morning, at his residence at Kelburn, Wellington, of Mr. George Tiller, in his S2nd year. For very many years the late Mr. Tiller has been a leading member of the Wesleyan Church in Taranaki Street, devoting a great amount of his time to the work in the primary department of tho Sunday School. Tho greater portion, of his life was spent in Wellington, while his association with tho Wesleyan Church goes back some sixty years.
Tho Minister of Lands (Hon. A. D. McLeod) left Wellington on Sunday for Wanganui. To-day the Minister will proceed to Patca and Hawera, and to-morrow ho will visit the Riverdalc factory and call at Manaia, Opunake, Rahotu, Parihaka, Kaponga, and Eltfcam. Thursday will he spent in the Stratford electorate, and on Friday the Inglewood district and New Plymouth will be visited. Saturday and Sunday will also be spent in New Plymouth, and the Minister will return to Wellington on Monday next.
