RESISTS ARREST
for breach of maintenance ORDER. FINED £5. At the Feilding Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Messrs E. H. Fisher and A. J. Geary J’s.P, Arthur Lionel Cairns, aged 34 years was charged with failing to comply with tho terms of a maintenance order made at Pahiatua on January 19 in favour of Florence Cairns Defendant was also charged with resisting arrest when apprehended by Constable Pike at Marton on Monday evening last. On the charge concerning the maintenance order defendant W'as remanded to appear at the Pahiatua Court on March 15. In evidence Constable Pike said that defendant was handed over to him on the Marton station on Monday evening to bring to Feilding. Defendent consented to go quietly but when in the carriage he became restive and endeavoured to get array. A struggle ensued and Constable Pike found it necessary to secure defendant with handcuffs. After this lio further resistance was offered. Defendant had nothing to say when questioned and was fined £5 in default one month’s imprisonment with hard labour. Tho Bench looked upon the offence as a most serious one.
