SETTLEMENT IS LIKELY IN JOINERS’ DISPUTE

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the carpenters and joiners dispute before the Conciliation Council to-day application was made for a new Dominion award. The employees asked for a 40-hour week of five days with £6 wages in lieu of a 44-hour week of 5} days and wages of 2s SSd per hour. The employers asked for tho existing award to be maintained. A complete agreement upon all clauses in the dispute was arrived at with the exception of wages and two minor points. Tho conditions of employment will bo based substantially upon the terms of the present award. The conference will be resumed tomorrow items in the dispute will be arranged so that there will be no appeal made to the Arbitration Court.
