AS RICH AS INDIA
WONDERS OP WEST AFRICA. [By Electric Cable-Copy right.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, Feb. 26. The report presented by tho Parliamentary Commission under Captain Walter Elliot, which recently visited West Africa, contains a rosy account of these possessions. Tho report states that they are second in importance only to India from an Empire standpoint. It adds no industrial troubles exist because, owing to a bounteous nature, it is only necessary to work two months in tho year. Twenty millions of natives, who arc just tasting civilisation, already buy more British goods per head than the United States. Tho huge land stretching to the borders of the Sahara, is one of the biggest livestock areas in the Empire, and is now carrying three million head. Thick coal seams exist in tho Enugu hillsides, also rich tinfields, and a great palm oil belt on the coast offer one of tho greatest opportunities for British enterprise.
