SPLENDID RAIN IN HAWKE’S BAY
MANOAHAO’S POSITION NOT AFFECTED YET Heavy rain fell on the East Coast yesterday putting an end to the drought conditions. The JVlanawatu also benefitted considerably but not to the same extent as the pastures over the range. The fall restored the confidence of farmers who consider that the rain maw yet be in time to sponsor a bountiful autumn - This feeling was reflected in the Pahiatua ewe fair yesterday, when there was a considerable advance all round upon late market reports. The situation at Mangahao, however has not been relieved to any great ex tent. The fall recorded there up to last evening was .8 inches and most of that appeared to have been soaked up greedily by the moisture depleted MU slopes. The level of the dams had not risen appreciably. There is apparently still the necessity to curtail the electric supply.
