THE HOURS OF SLEEP
HEALTH OF COMMUNITY. DAYLIGHT-SAVING MEASURE. DISCUSSION BY DOCTORS. The effect of daylight saving upon the health of the community was ono of the main questions raised at a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Medical Association. The council did not record any opinion ou the subject, it being decided to obtain reports from the 13 different divisions throughout the Dominion and then reopen tho subject at the next quarterly meeting of the council to be held in Wellington in June. Expressions of opinion voiced showed doctors considered that daylight saving was calculated to do no harm and probably accomplished much good One doctor’s humorous remark was, “Our only objection is that it does not help our business.” “It is only a matter of time and adaptation," said another, “and it will be appreciated. ’ ’ :It was necessary that the young children should bo sent to bod , before it was properly dark, but tbisi was often done in the long, southern twilights. The doctor emphasised the need for a good rest in view of the longer play, and for this reason he deplored the noise made by motor vehicles in the cities during the 1 evenings. “Tho farmer," ho added, “is the only one who has any right to say anything against the measure and, if he can suit himself to the conditions, everything will be all right."
