A LIBERAL REGIME AGAIN FOR BRITAIN?
BIG INCREASE IN VOTE AT ILFORD ELECTION [By Electric Cable-Copynght,] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Feb. 24. The by-election at Ilford, caused by the death of Sir Frederick Wise resulted as follows; Sir George Hamilton (Con.) .... 18,269 A. S. Comyns Carr (Lib.) 13,621 De Gruchy (Lab.) 8,922 The figures at the last election were:— Sir F. Wise (Con.) 22,825 Chater (Lab.) 8,460 Morris (Lib.) 7,780 The big increase in the Liberal vote may be attributed in some measure to the personality of Mr Comyns Carr, who is a King's Counsel and one of the most promising men at the Bar. In Liberal circles however the result, following the recent Liberal success at Lancaster, is regarded with great satisfaction, and as further evidence of Liberal revival.
