DAVID GARRICK WINS THE WOODVILLE CUP

THU RACING DESCRIBED, y Easy For Panorama. In the Hack Hurdles the six acceptors all went to the starter. Polyphemus was made fmn favourite by the public carrying £385 Blue Peter. (£236) and Panorama i£l4l) being next in demand. Axle quickly took up the running leading Polyphemus, Blue Peter, Ponjola, Panorama and Sir Moment. The order was unchanged over the first hurdle, and the only alteration info the straight and passing the stands was |hat Sir Moment moved up ahead of Panorama. Going into tho back Panorama, began to improve and ran up into third berth while Polyphemus had taken Axle's measure. Polyphemus went to the front going round the bend and Panorama ran past Blue Peter Polyphemus led into the straight from Panorama and Blue Peter, with Axle, Ponjola and Sir Moment put of it. Panorama was first over the last obstacle and went on to win easily by three lengths from’ Blue Peter,’ who was four lengths too good for the favourite in the run home. 1 Then came Axle, Ponjola and Sir Moment well away. Shining Star At East . ..vy ? , , . . Golden Egg and Tragic declined their' engagements in the Maiden Stakes leaving a field of 14 to face tho harrier. Sneerer was first fancy with 336 tickets, Shining Star carrying £245 Molong £l5O and Red Bank £135. Tho others were all at a good price. There was a little delay at the start owing to Vindication and Fallow showing a disjnclinaton to line up Once the tapes were released Fallow shot out to the front followed by Vindication Shining Star, Molong and Keen, the rest together. Keen quickly ran to the fore on the outside and was leading round the bend from Vindication, Shining Star, . Timi Inihi, Molong, Ahalama Sneerer and Follow. Keen led" into tho straight tho order of the others being unchanged except that Red Bank was improving wide out. Keen was done in the run home, but there was a big tussle for the honours between Shining Star, Vindication, Molong; and Ahalama, the former coming away a chain from the post to win by half a length, with noses between the next three who finished in the order mentioned. Next came Bed Bank, Keen and Timi Inihi with Lady Raven tailing the field.

Improvement of rorm. The defection of Bennanee and Bing Boy still left a strong field of eleven to contest the Cup. Joy Bird on her Wanganui showings was made favourite with 366 tickets. Blimp parried £3ll, then choice fell on Lady Limond (£283) and Oratrix (£267). Lady Limond began best from Blimp, Twink and Capitulation, but there was little breaking of the line down the straight. Lady Limond led past the stands from Blimp, Twink, Capitulation, Huikai, Joy Bird. Oratrix, Black Mint, David Garrick, Novar and' Cohesion. Blimp went to the front going into the back and Capitulation ran up into second berth followed by Twink and Lady Limond. David Garrick improved considerably going along the back, arid Oratrix was with him. Around the bend Capitulation assumed the lead from Blimp and Joy Bird, with David Garrick and Oratrix still going up fast on the outer. Capitulation led into the straight from Joy Birl, David Garrick and Oratrix, with Blimp on the rails unable to keep up witb them. David Garrick and Oratrix left the field in the long run to the post, the Kilbroney lady half a length behind. Theso two fought out a stirring finish. David Garrick on the inner retained a head advantage on the post, Novar, who had put in a fast run down the straight being fourth lengths away, tVfrd, Joy Bird was another length away, fourth,, then came Cohesion, Lady Limond. Blimp, Capitulation, Black Mint. Twink end Huikat'

Broad Acre Starts off Well in Open Trainer New Produces Four Winners The Woodville Club *8 Autumn Meeting opened yesterday in dull, misty weather. The course .had been well soaked by rain over night, and all the sting was out of the track, making for better going than has been the case for some time past., There was a good attendance. The totalisator put through £13,170 for the day as against £13,301 on the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £224. , The day passed without mishap or inquiry. The starting was of first class order, every, field being well sent off. . After the Cup race Mr. S. Bolton, president of the Club, called upon Mira. W. H. Qaisford to present to Mr. W. D. Moroncy, trainer of the winner, David Garrick,, in the absence of the owner, Mr. C. Elgar, the valuable He congratulated owner and trainer, and paid tribute to the rider, B. H. Morris. Mrs. Gaisford then presented the trophy, and Mr. Moroney accepted on behalf of Mr, Elgar amid enthusiastic applause. ■ A specially meritorious achievement was registered by, Trainer G. New, of Awapuhi, who produced the winners of four- races —Shining Star, Broad Acre, Mooregas, and Duke Abbey. - Trainer W. D. Moroney captured two of the remaining .event? with David Garrick and; Talisker. '.

Blimp ran prominently over the early part of the journey/ but was failing before the straight was reached. He appeared to be sticking too much to the' nails; - Joy -Bird tried to take command coming round-the bend but could .not: pass Capitulation. Oratrix and David Garrick improved, over the whole journey, and were the only ones with a say in things at the end. Oratrix seemed to be creeping up on the leader down the straight -but not quickly enough. David Garrick ran a different race from that in the Wanganui Cup and was evidently improved by the -gallop. Lady Limond never looked a winner. • Novar came from well back in the run down the straight. Outsider All The Way. Grand National, Tanagra, Tameses, and Le Champ declined their Country Handicap engagement for which Vigilance was best - supported with £326. while--MoeP -Bird - carried- but £3 less. There was a big drop to Par Money (£242) and Lady Cynthia ,(£230) while the winner could only muster 122 tickets. . Aston led out from the barrier from Little Queen, Dreamy, Hine Hohoro, Vigilance, Lady Cynthia, Grey Mist, Moa Bird, Par Money and Handsome, the-last three being slow- to move Aston .still led on the bend with Dreamy moved'up to second berth and Little Queen and Vigilance following. Aston was 'being held coming into the straight, followed closely by Dreamy, Vigilance, Little Queen, Lady Cynthia and Moa Bird,-with Handsome a long way back at the , end of the rest. Aston had no difficulty along the straight, staving off a strong challenge on the outer by Lady Cynthia and winning by half a length, with Lady Cynthia two lengths ahead of Little Queen. Vigilance was fourth, then came Dreamy, Moa Bird, Grey Mist, Hine Hohoro and Par Money, with Handsome last The imported Aston had not had a race for some time, but won with ease from end to end. He is a better class horse than most of the others of the field. Lady Cynthia came very feat over the last bit and may soon be a winner. Par Money was never prominent, and Moa'• Bird did not come up to the public estimation. Both wore slow to move from the barrier, having their chances thus cut short. First Time In Open. Pour defections from the Open Six, Crown Area, Dobbin, Birkie and Lady Ideal, reduced tho runners to seven. Broad Acre was a firm first choice carrying 544 tickets. Eoyal Ceres was entrusted with £455 and Epistle with £321. In an even start Eoyal Ceres had a little the best of it and led out from Coot, Broad Acre and Misss Pat. Tho latter, however, quickly ran to the front on the outside, and Epistle moved up. Miss Pat led on the bend from Broad Acre, Epistle, Arrow Lad. Eoyal Ceres, Arch Arrow, and Coot. Broad Acre went to the front . coming into the straight, followed by Epistle, Miss Pat, Eoyal Ceres, Arrow Lad, Coot and Arch Arrow. The Awapuni representative. who was making his first appearance in open" class, simply ran away from the rest down the straight to win by a clear three lengths from Arrow Lad, who came at the end to beat Eoyal Ceres by a length and a-half. Then camo Coot, who ran an in and out sort of a race, Miss Pat, Epistle, and Arch Arrow. Broad Acre was in a winning position all the way and when called on in tho straight totally outclassed his opposition. It was a remarkable performance for one newly risen out of hacks Eoyal Ceres had every chance, but could not do it. He was first out from the barrier, but was out of his stride quickly falling back to last. He moved up again and was well placed when tho straight was reached. Arrow Lad did not have the best of passages, and did well to got up for second money. His effort down the straight was impressive. Epistle did not run

on the last furlong, quickly falling out of the contest, , ; G. New’s Third. Tea Miss alone declined her engagement in the Sapling Stakes. Amplifier was a firm favourite carrying £667 of the public's money, while, Australis (£266), Millais (£232) and Mooregas (£260) were evenly backed. Spcarniain, lligh Society and Tunbridge showed an unwillingness to go np to the barrier and had to be led to the tapes. A good despatch, was effected Millais taking up. therunning‘from Mooregas; and simplifier, Australis and Boston following. Off the beifd Mooregas had dropped back to third, the otherwise being unchanged. Millais Ted into the straight from Amplifierj Mooregas, Australis, 1 Boston, Spearmain,. High Society and Tunbridge. Amplifier looked a gobd winner at the distance, but the Gasbag 1 gelding came out from the rails and with a terrific burst oa tho outer left everything behind to win decisively ■by a length and a-half from the favourite, with Millais two lengths and a-half further away third. Well strung out- came Australis, .Boston, Spearmain, High Society and Tunbridge. ‘ i -v Another To G. No#. The seatchings of 'Bonhommo,. Broad ■ Acre, Bing Boy, Phantasy and Dady Gay still left the biggest field of the ■ day to contest the • Open Seven; Tho public went for G. New’s stable , entrusting Duke Abbey with 556 tiouetp. There was, a big drop •to The Swell (£295),- Wilderness .(£l74)' and- Cosmetic (£173). ■ .Duke Abbey upset the line at the barrier on several occasions, but the field .eventually was got away together. After a furlong Willow Wai was showing the way to Cosmetic, Royal Game,,tin Arlington, Tresham Tho Swell, -Kilmoyler anil Duke Abbey.: Kilmoyler and Duke Abbey niov.cd up on the bond, where Willow. Wpi , still had charge from Cosmetic, Boyal Game Kilmoyler, Duke Abbeyi Tresham) The Swell and Kilmiss.. Willow Wai led. across the top and info the straight with Kilmoyler np iff,, second berth, then Boyal Game, Diike . Abbey, Tresham, Cosmetic and The Swell. Buke Abbey made no mistake With it from tho distance- coining up on the outer to the front, and going on.to win by a length from The Swell, who came through fast, and finished a couple of lengths ahead 'of . Kilmoyler. Then came Cosmetic, a head away. Willow Wai, Tresham and, Kilmiss together, and the rest in a bunch. ~... . Klhs had, his mount well placed at the turn and made no race of it in tho run to the, post. The Swell had an outside passage 'most of the journey, and finished fast and.full; of running. Kilmpyler found the ditsance' just too far. Willow Wai, Cosmetic arid Tresham all ran creditable races.' Boyal Game was prominent to the straight but then faded out of this picture.' End To 35nd. -‘-.r-rfiKi w

Sandburr defected in tie final event of tho programme leaving the only one-dividend field bL the day to fight for "the honours.' TaHsker with <540 tickets whs given pride of placeoh the machine.’ End Fuchsia was next sought after, carrying £555- : There was no delay at the barrier Talisker showing out from Fallow, Aurora Borealis, Eed Fuchsia and Braeman.' The only change as the field went into the back was that Braeman had moved up ahead of Eed Fuchsia. TaHsker still led at the bend with Fallow .on -the outside of him. Braeman, Aurora Borealis and Eed Fuchsia were together in that order from the rails. TaHsker led into tho straight and Fallow, dropped out of it. Eed Fuchsia and Aurora Borealis came with strong challenges, the former on tho outside, but TaHsker withstood them to win by half, a length from Fuchsia, Aurora Borealis another half length away. Them came Braeman and Fallow, . , • RACING IN DETAIL. •’ ORINGI HURDLES HANDICAP ,of 130 sovs. 14 miles: 8 PANORAMA, Panmure —Overall. Mrs H. E. Nicholas Kg., aged 0.9 (A.
