BOWLING
PALMERSTON NORTH CLUBS PREVAIL OVER. VICTORIANS Though a cool southerly blew, and much needed rain still threatened, the Manawatu bowling green yesterday was the scene of some fine , games in which the warm fellowship of bowlers was tho predominating feature. Though tho Palmerston North clubs were victors in every instance,, the Victorians played an excellent sporting game, and tho visit will do much to further strengthen that good spirit of fellowship that already exists between Now Zealanders and their cousins from over tho Tasman. The Victorians do not claim to be the elect of their State, rather aro they a band of happy bowling “ambassadors” enjoying a tour in a sister Dominion. In meeting Palmerston’s best, they had to admit defeat, but several games were most interesting. Both sides played the game for the sake of the game, and much mutual goodfellowship was manifested. Tho Visitors Earewelled. After the close of the games Mr. J. A, Nash, president of the Manawatu Bowling Centre, in a few happy words expressed the delight of the Palmerston' bowlers at receiving a visit from their cousins across the water. Re regarded such visits as .an ideal means of strengthening the bonds of good fellowship that already existed between the two countries. Palmerston would long remember the visit of the Victorians and would be delighted to welcome them again. Hearty cheers were then given for the visitors.
Mr W. Lyoh reciprocated the happy thoughts expressed by Mr Nash, and on behalf of the Victorian team .thanked tho Palmerston North bowlers (or the pleasant time they had enjoyed. They were delighted with the fine hospitality extended to them everywhere during their tour and would always remember the happy days spent with their fellow bowlers in New Zealand. The popular bowling ditty, cheers for the Palmerston North bowlers and tho ladies, were then lustily given. Yesterday morning the tourists were conducted on a motor tour of the town. Visits were paid to the Takaro, Northern and Terrace End greens, and then’the party proceeded to tho Esplanade where a pleasant half-hour was spent. Going on to the racecourse, the visitors were welcomed by the president of tho Manawatu Racing Club (Mr. C. Louisson) and shown over the grounds and buildings. Particular interest was taken in the electric totallsator, the like of which many of the visitors had never seen before, bookmakers being the medium of racing speculation in Victoria.
