Butters Wins From Shaw After Exciting Finish GREAT PUTTING AT LAST HOLE (Per Press Association.) TTMAEU, Last Night. The New Zealand Professional Golf tournament was. concluded here to-day in bright weather, before a largo attendance of -the public. Play was of an exceptionally high order. Tho South Canterbury Championship was contested by fourteen and provided a very close and exciting finish, E. C. Butters (Miramar) winning the Cup by a magnificent fifteen-foot putt which gave him ono point over A _ J. Shaw (Napier). Both'played brilliant golf throughout the whole of tho last round. Butters established a lead of one at the seventeenth hole and both finished the last hole in four, Shaw also finishing with a splendid 12ft. putt. The players were given an ovation, Shaw completed a great round in tho morning, doing eighteen, holes in 68, which was 2 outside of J. H. Kirkwood’s record on the same links a few years ago. Cr. B. Forest (Timaru) who finished third, again gave a consistent display and but for a poor second round would have been hard to beat. J. A. Clements (Christchurch) who was level with Butters at tho start of tho final round, had a bad run in the afternoon and finished fourth. The third stroke handicap was won hy A. J, Shaw; (Napier) and the fourth stroke handicap went to G-. B. Forrest (Timaru).' Tho Dunlop Rubber Co’s. special for tho lowest nett aggregate in to-day’s play was won by A. J. Shaw, while G. B. Forrset secured tho eclectic special. Results— SOUTH CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP (aggregate’scores) .
