Good Results From Opening Partnership SEVEN WICKETS DOWN FOE 393 RUNS (Per Press Association.) . DUNEDIN, Last Night. Tho Australian cricket team commenced a match against Otago to-day-in perfect -weather on a good wicket that was ,a trifle slow. The visitors won the toss and batted first. Ponsford and Woodfull, in the opening partnership, produced 214 before Woodfull was caught by Alloo off Dickinson at 107. Ponsford, who made 148 before ho was caught by Alloo off Dickinson, was dropped by Shepherd when ho was one. The opening pair batted all morning and Ponsford survived till the tea adjournment. Kippax came in and played a stylish bat for 3S. Ho was clcn /bowled by Diclunson 308—2—38. Otago's fast bowler seemed now to have his eye in as ho disposed of five more batsmen in a comparatively short time. Richardson followed Ponsford and Schneider went in on the fall of Kippax's wicket. The captain made two before he stopped right in front of his wicket and wont out l.b.w. to Dickinson, who had now 4 wickets for 57. Schneider (1.b.w.) and Oxenham (clean bowled for none) were then disposed of hy Dickinson. Oldfield snicked the ball into Galland's hands behind tho sticks and wont out for one. • t, Dickinson had taken seven wickets for 58 runs. The score was now 3207 —O’. >• Grimmott followed Oldfield, joining Jackson and this partnership lasted the game out. Scoring was not fast and tho batsmen were still treating tho Otago bowlers with respect. Seven had had a try with the ball, Alloo and Dickinson doing the best work, the former getting no wickets but bowling an unusual number of naidens. Stumps were drawn at 6 p.m. with the score 7 for 393.
