The annual meeting of the South Island Bands’ Association was held today. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £l3B 11s. The question of professionalism at contests was raised in a letter from Mr, R. J. Estali, tendering his resignation as trustee. His reason as stated was that the Association was drifting away from the principle and objects for which it was formed—namely, the fostering of competition among amateur bands. The secretary: “ It’s not tbe fault of the Association that we are drifting towards professionalism. It is the fault of the bands themselves.” It was stated that at the Dunedin contest some bands played as many as four professionals. It was agreed that the whole matter bo referred to the incoming executive for consideration. The election of officers resulted:— President, Dr. H. I. J. Thacker; treasurer, Mr. 11. Swcncy; secretary, Mr. I. F. Hall; trustee, Mr. B. J. Estali; committee, Messrs. W. Larcombe, B. Billcliff, J. McCullough, W. D. Murray W. Newton, D. Oates, J. D. Hunter, A. Wood, A. G. Homer and R. B. Hoan.
