HELPING THE EMIGRANT
The Women’s Branch Oversea Settlement Department takes care of women emigrants and children all the way from Euston to Liverpool, care of the sea-sick during the voyage, changing of money, landing cards and-tho medical examination. The
arrival, a rather bleak time, especially if the steamer gets in at 3 a. m.. is ma.de easy; The conductress looks after luggage and money changing, sending telegrams, etc., the children being taken care of at the Red Cross Nursery. They are seen to their trains or to the Government hostels where they can get temporary help. The Lancashire County Council, like the authorities in some Scottish towns are providing short colonial courses for women before they leave. Girls who come well through a two days test are qualified for free and assisted t passages.
