KOHINUI
VALEDICTORY TO MB. ANT) MBS. PARSONS. - (From Our Own Correspondent.) ;On Wednesday evening a “ surprise’» party of over sixty people visited tlia homstead of Mr. and Mrs. Parsons to bid them farewell Dane: ing, cards, games, and songs wore the means- of entertainment and needless to say, were much enjoyed. Music was supplied by Mrs. Parsons, Misses Bellshaw, Wall and Piper, and Messrs. Bono and Kearney (violin) while songs by Mrs.P arsons, Messrs. Cotter and D. Groves were well applauded. After the supper interval, Mr. Cotter, in a neat speech referred to the popularity of Mr. and Mrs. Parsons and family, and' of the high esteem in which they are held by the people of this district. They were ever ready to help their neighbours, and with their departure Kohinui was losing worthy settlers. On behalf of the gathering, the speaker then presented to .Mr. Parsons a handsome barometer (to remind him of Pahiatua when the glass was high J) and Mrs. Parsons was asked to accept a travelling rug, as a souvenir of the district. Musical honours and hearty cheers showed that Mr. Cotter’s words were endorsed. In replying, on behalf of Mrs. Parsons, the family, and himself, Mr. Parsons thanked those present for the ‘surprise’ given them that evening. Although they had been at their present address only eleven years, they had been in the district over forty years, going through to Conoor, when the road terminated at M. Ellingham’s property. Mr. Parsons had been in this part of the Wairarapa since childhood, so both had witnessed many changes since those pioneering days, of which he recalled many humerous incidents. In conclusion, ho again thanked the Kohinui people for their gifts, and extended an invitation to one and all, when they settled in their own home. Dancing was then resumed till half past one, when a pleasant evening terminated with the time-honored 1 ‘ Auld Lang Syne. ”
