AMERICAN ORANGES

ON AUSTRALIAN MARKET. The following appeared in the Melbourne “Argus”: — “Many purchasers of oranges iu the last fortnight have been supplied, to their surprise, with fruit grown in California. Tho American oranges have been coming on to the market in increasing quantities since Christmas. Tho reason is the gradual failure of tho Australian supply. Oranges are chiefly a winter crop, and in the summer very few arc grown. Where 10,000 cases of Australian oranges a week were being received a month ago tho supply has now fallen to 200 or 300 cases. The Californian fruit which owing to the difference in season, is plentiful when the Australian is scarce, will continue to bo sold in Melbourne fruit shops probably until May. ”
